What Is Carbon Monoxide

Because the heating season is right around the corner, I think it’s important to inform as many as possible about this toxic gas. The reason is because  carbon monoxide (CO) will take the life of 10,000 individuals this year alone, sending 20 to 40,000 more to the hospital. This gas has no odor, color, or taste; so it cannot be detected by bodily senses..

(CO) is produced by incomplete combustion of fossil fuels . Inhaled carbon monoxide is absorbed into the blood. It combines with the hemoglobin in the blood to a much greater extent than oxygen does; it will then reduce the oxygen – carrying function of the blood. You now know why carbon monoxide is ranked #1 for accidental poisoning deaths in the United States. How is carbon monoxide formed? How is it measured? How can I be sure my home is safe? What can I do to reduce the risk?  These questions will be answered and more. Stay tuned for the next article.
